FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What kind of jacket should I wear?

The type of outdoor wear that would be suitable for snowboarding or skiing is also good for snowshoeing. Anything used for mountaineering would also work great. There are many people who wear a sweater, and then an outer covering to stay warm. This also works, but vinyl or rubber jackets are not well suited for rain. If possible, take a coat that can breathe, or has ventilation pockets than can be opened if it becomes too warm.

Gore-Tex jackets that breathe are great options.

Occasionally at first glance it may appear that your jacket is not very warm, but after you start walking, your body temperature naturally rises and you’ll be perfectly warm. When skiing, you often become very warm while you’re actually on the run, and then suddenly get very cold when you ride the lift.

However, when you’re snowshoeing, your body temperature changes much more slowly, and so you reach a more constant and comfortable temperature. For this reason, it is not necessary to wear really heavy clothing that may become uncomfortable and stuffy later on.

So, poorly vented rain jackets are not the best choice. On days with good whether, 1-2 hour trips may not be a problem, but when that is not that case please bring a jacket that breathes well
